"This case study (from Bellevue, Washington) presents a model for how communities on the urban edge can conduct active natural resource management based on ecological principals (sic)." (p.121) [UMN]

"Across the country it is common for local parks and recreation departments to be the largest landowners within a citys limits. It is quite uncommon for city or county governments to have active land stewardship programs. Bellevue, Washington has been developing a comprehensive Urban Forestry/Land Stewardship program for several years. This case study presents a model for how communities on the urban edge can conduct active natural resource management based on ecological principals. Specific project examples will show how an ecosystem management approach can provide the public with a broad set of environmental, recreational, social, and aesthetic benefits. Cities include greenbelt management, wildlife enhancement, use of native plants, and ecological resource management." [Abstract]
