Conservation education and outreach in the Northeastern Area

Reference Type
Conference Proceedings (Chapter)

The objective of the Environmental Education Outreach Program was to meet with youth of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds from inner-city and urban areas and to identify their concerns and knowledge about the environment and natural resources. [UMN]

"Over the last four years, 58 summer interns hired by the USDA Forest Service reached out to 19,000 children. Hands-on activities, presented in a variety of settings from day camps, parks, to city streets stretched the youths knowledge of natural resources. Challenges and approaches to addressing them are discussed." [Abstract]
