Sustainable management of natural resources: Is it possible at the urban-rural interface?
Conference Proceedings (Chapter)
This paper examines historic land use management tools in the United States from a planning perspective, and it provides insight to the political and economic factors that determine the success or failure of these tools to create and/or enhance sustainable landscapes. Suggestions for alternative land use planning strategies in the face of urban sprawl are provided using a case study from a rapidly growing area in Michigan (USA). [UMN]
