Spirit Of The Trees

This program depicts the importance of tree biodiversity from the viewpoint of Native American People.

The Spirit of the Trees contains stories about Native Americans throughout North America and their relationships with nature. Tribal leaders and elders discuss various ways to sustain their forests and still produce the necessary resources to live happily. The film describes the importance of trees such as the cedar for spiritual relationships with the land. Proper forest management is vital ensure future use of resources for items like totems, drums and woven baskets.

This two tape series is broken into 6 parts with commentary by native people from Central U.S., Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, and Hawaii. Each section shows different traditions necessary to protect forests for future generations.
